An epigastric hernia occurs when a weakened area in the abdominal wall allows a bit of fat to push through. A visible hernia that becomes darker in color or hue. That said laparoscopic surgery requires that a patient undergo general anesthesia whereas traditional hernia repair can be done under general regional or local anesthesia.
Other hernias include hiatus incisional and umbilical hernias.
