Epiretinal Membrane Surgery. You will see a small bubble moving around the eye and it will blur your vision for a few days after surgery. However sometimes when the vitreous pulls away from the retina there is microscopic damage to the retina s surface note.
The surgery for erms is called a vitrectomy. Surgery is not necessary if the epiretinal membrane is mild and having little or no effect on vision. If the condition is very mild and has little or no effect on your vision then treatment will generally be unnecessary.
When this happens the retina begins a healing process to the damaged area and forms scar tissue or an epiretinal membrane on the surface of the retina.
Erms most often cause minimal symptoms but in some instances can result in a painless loss of vision and visual distortion. However not all epiretinal membranes require treatment. The mainstay of treatment for symptomatic erm is surgical removal of the erm. Development of eccentric or paracentral macular hole is a relatively unusual complication following ilm peeling.
